Hailing originally from Edinburgh, this americana/country songstress now calls New York her home. Following her recent albums going from strength to strength and gaining fans in the UK and beyond, she is in the big apple writing, performing, and aiming to make a name for herself in the USA and has recently been recording her new EP in Nashville at Zac Brown’s studio, Southern Ground.
To date, Stephanie’s support accolades include Blues Legend Joan Armatrading, British country duo Ward Thomas, Ultravox’s Midge Ure and Brit award winner Emeli Sandé. Her songwriting has been heavily influenced by Tift Merritt, Brandi Carlile, Carole King and James Taylor and her musical direction goes from strength to strength.
Manns describes her sound as Americana, a comfortable blend of Country, Folk and Blues, and critics have compared her vocally to Karen Carpenter, Colbie Caillat, Sharon Corr and Chrissy Hynde. Self-taught, she performs on guitar or ukulele to deliver mature, introspective songwriting complimented by her warm, intimate and very capable vocal ability. Whether thought-provoking or foot-stomping, this alt-country songstress never fails to deliver a soulful performance.
Her first album has been critically acclaimed with a double page feature in the May edition of Maverick magazine “UK’s most popular Country Music publication” and a 4 star review; reviews from R2 magazine (“UK’s most trusted resource for folk & roots music” – 4.5 stars), Americana UK (8.5/10), The Upcoming (5 stars), New Country UK (9.5/10); Regional BBC airplay on London, Scotland (Iain Anderson show) Norfolk, Shropshire, Gloucester, London, Tees, Devon, Jersey, Ulster including a guest spot on BBC Tees discussing her music and influences; Featured on local BBC Introducing; and a spot on BBC London on Gaby Roslin’s show playing live in the studio to promote the release of her debut album alongside other guests such as actor Kenny Doughty, comedian Tom Wrigglesworth and actress Emily Mortimer. She has also been played by Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2.
Most notably for Stephanie, upon release date was reaching Number 10 in the iTunes Country charts, in between Sheryl Crow and Dolly Parton.
